Professor Norah McKinnon sat behind a desk in a classroom with walls lined with bookshelves and posters and maps. A list of presidents, state birds, and random facts on American history could be found around the classroom as well.
Behind the desk Professor McKinnon was sitting behind was a large green chalkboard, and neatly written across this board was the following:
History of America Professor Norah McKinnon
Below this was: Today's Lesson: Discovery of the Americas
Assignment: Look in your textbooks, 'A Guide to American History,' and read page 52 on Christopher Columbus. On parchment, tell who Christopher Columbus was, what his initial mission was, how he discovered the Americas, which ships he took, and any other miscellaneous facts on this particular sub-subject in American History.
Start: November 24 (which is really today, July 24) Due: December 1 (which is really July 31).
You have on week to complete the assignment. If you fail to hand it in completely and thoroughly finished, you will receive an F and a detention to go along with it. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Melissa walked into the History of America classroom. She already knew a fair bit of history due to her years in a muggle school. "Good morning, Professor McKinnon," she said cheerfully.

"Good morning, Miss Murray," Norah said, looking up from her desk. "You will note," she said, pointing her index finger to the green board behind her, "that I have set a lesson to be completed. You may start on it now before the rest of your classmates arrive," and smiled.

Melissa smiled. "I will, Professor, right away!" She took a seat at the front and took out a notebook and copied the assignment and the name of the teacher. Then she took out a scroll of patchment and started on her essay.

"Lovely," Norah said at her student's enthusiasm. Norah arose from her desk and walked over to a chart at the far end of the green board. The chart was comprised of all the students' names who were registered to take this class. Next to Melissa Murray's name she drew a small purple smiley face, indicating that she was right on time for class.

Sofia checked to see if anyone was in the History of America classroom before entering. Spotting Professor McKinnon and Melissa, she grinned and entered. "Hello, Professor McKinnon," she said, taking a seat next to Melissa. "Hey," she whispered in an undertone.

"Good morning, Miss Reynolds," Norah replied smiling. She tapped the greenboard with her hand and said, "Today's lesson is on the board here, you may start now if you like, while I wait for the rest of the class to begin. And, since class has not yet begun for lack of students showing up, I do suppose you may talk quietly amongst yourselves while you work if you wish." And with that she added a purple smiley face next to the slot where Sofia's name was, too, indicating her on-time arrival for class.

"Eh, not really," Sofia replied nonchalantly. "I've been trying to dig up something on 'Peter'. you know, find out who he is exactly."

Norah hastily checked her watch; it was past eight-thirty now, so she had no choice but to start her class without the rest.
"Okay," she said aloud, getting up from her seat from behind her desk. "Since the others have decided to be tardy, we shall start. Let's start off with some simple questions. Like...when did our country declare its independence?"
