It was a sunny day Alyssa relizied the moment she woke up. Sunlight settled in her room making the glass of her mirror sparkle soundly. As always her curtains were left open, and wide. She couldn't stand the darkness, even though her own eyes represented the color black and all the darkness around. She had awoken early, but that was quite normal for her as she struggled to sleep at all.
She got up quickly and dressed. She wore a simple white kimono with a red ribbon. Normally, Alyssa didn't wear her kimonos as they were a Japanese style and the other children hated it, but today was a important day for her. The day her family as killed. In America white was not a color to wear on this sort of occosian but Alyssa was not fully American and by no means was she going to follow each of thier customs. Her blonde hair had been brushed several times and held up in a pretty black ribbon. It was in a ponytail; per normal style.
She had put her uniform over her kimono and quickly put on her Prefect and Qudditch badges. It wasn't the beat look in town, but it would due. She hurried out of the Eagles house, and quickly dashed down the stairs into the hall welcoming those going to the feast. She walked into the hall, and looked around. The sun reflected on the shiny surfaces of the house tables, especially her houses which was white. She walked over to it, and settled down waiting for the arrival of all the others.

A few seats down from the girl donning the kimono sat a girl, shuffling through a newspaper. It wasn't a magic-oriented newspaper, but a Muggle one. The headline flashed, 'Äåâóøêà óáèòà!' Russian. Yes, Sofia Reynolds, an Eagles fourth year, was perusing a Russian newspaper sent to her by her magical cousin Dmitri Parkov, obviously from her mother's side.
The headline 'Äåâóøêà óáèòà!' translates 'Girl is Murdered!' Normally such things didn't keep hold of Sofia's attention, seeing as she went more for the comic strips next to the sports page. But the bolded type underneath the headline caught her eye, and that translated into, 'Cause of death unknown, despite full autopsy.' An inexplicable death? Sofia thought, puzzled to the highest degree. Obviously an act done by magic.
Finishing the article, Sofia folded up the paper and reached for a knife and an apple. She sliced the apple into pieces, placing each portion onto her plate and then piling a heaping helping of scrambled eggs onto her plate as well. She made a grab for the ketchup, and knocked it over, and Sofia was utterly grateful the cap was on tight. Flipping open the bottle's lid, she squeezed, a stream of liquid tomato oozing from the tip, making curvy lines on her eggs. Looking around at other students in the hall, she mused, How on earth could they not eat eggs lathered in ketchup? It's...barbaric!
While eating, Sofia kept stealing glances up at the Staff table, hoping no one would reprimand her for not wearing her school uniform. That morning she was dressed in jeans, mud-brown Converse sneakers, and a green T-shirt that read 'DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE' in large black letters underneath a picture of a black willow tree. Her choppy hair (newly cut, with all accolades going to herself), fell into her emerald eyes, and her skin slightly burned from a previous day in the sun.

Marri Shapiro walked up and sat at the end of the table. She pulled out a book and started to read. She was grabbing some food and putting it on her plate.

Sofia looked up from her scrambled eggs, and her eyes met the figure of a tall, slender girl with reddish hair and pretty green eyes, much like her own. The girl, obviously, was an Eagle, and Sofia was sure they were in the same year.
"Privet," Sofia said, after swalling the lump of egg that had formed in her mouth whilst chewing. She wiped her hands on the napkin in her lap incase she was expected to shake hands.

Sofia raised an eyebrow. "Privet," she repeated. "I'm Sofia, Sofia Reynolds. Nice to meet you." She held out her hand for Marri to shake. "I'm from Russia. Where are you from? I know it's sort of a random thing to inquire of, seeing as we just met and all, but this school is so divers that it is so interesting to hear where people come from."

Marri shook hands with Sofia. "I'm from Germany," she told her, "and I agree that it is fun to hear where others are from." Marri gave Sofia a smile.

"Germany, eh?" Sofia asked, shaking the girl's hand. "There are a lot of Germans here. I think they are from Dredsen, Germany, if I remember correctly."

"Ah," Sofia replied, inclining her head slightly. "Sounds interesting enough." She shoveled yet another forkful of egg into her mouth like there would not be a tomorrow.
She swalled. "So," Sofia said, turning her gaze back on Marri, "what year are you in? I'm in my fourth year."

Sofia took a swig of pumpkin juice and nodded. "Yeah, the school. I suppose it's okay. My cousin tells me it's better than the Pederoff Academy of Magic in Russia. That's where my mom went, though, and she loved it. My dad went to a Muggle grade school and then a Muggle high school. College, too. What about your parents?"
Sofia suddenly wished she could turn back time and not ask Marri about her parents. A good amount of students that attented the American School for Magic had either been orphaned at a young age, or had had a really horrid relationship with their mother and father.
